Dr. Mohannad Barakat has fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (trauma and orthopaedics) and membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. He received distinctions in all his years of the University. He was awarded with several honours in the areas of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, surgery, anaesthesia and orthopaedics. His specialities include emergency medicine, ENT, general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He is an experienced professional working in the arena of trauma, orthopaedic and spinal surgery for many years. He has performed large numbers of surgeries with great success.
A dedicated surgeon, Dr. Mohannad Barakat is competent in all aspects of trauma surgery ranging from the simple ones to the most complex of trauma cases. These include all emergency trauma surgery, external fixation and frame ring fixation for fractures, hip fractures, long bone fractures, humeral fractures, hand fractures, knee fractures, ankle fractures, all paediatric fractures and many others. He has also successfully performed elective procedures with significant experience in spinal surgery. He is competent at operations such as carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, wrist arthroscopy, spine nerve root blocks, spine canal decompression, scoliosis correction, and others.
Dr. Mohannad Jamil Barakat has given important presentations at local, and national level. His presentations at international level include Multilevel Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Decompression – mid term outcome using a modified Hinge osteotomy technique; The range of movement of the thumb; New surgical technique for the management of Blount’s disease; Femoral offset and neck thinning in cemented and uncemented hip resurfacing; Comparison of biomechanics of total hip replacement and hip resurfacing; The long term outcome of bilateral hip surgery in severe cerebral palsy; new radiological appearance of ostenecrosis of the lateral condyle in tennis elbow; and management of long bone fractures from road traffic accidents.
Dr. Barakat is also involved with the teaching and examination of students, junior and senior doctors at various stages of their education, allied professionals, and theatre staff. He has the Oxford Teaching the Teachers certificate, and is an examiner on the Miller FRCS course. He is the reviewer for the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Journal of Joint and Bone Surgery (JBJS) and the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOST).
