Dr. Mohannad Barakat is dedicated to providing comprehensive emergency and trauma care for patients with complex injuries. He is competent at performing orthopaedic surgeries as well. He has expertise in areas of all emergency trauma surgery, external fixation and frame ring fixation for fractures, hip fractures, long bone fractures, humeral fractures, elbow fractures, all hand fractures, all knee fractures, ankle fractures, all paediatric fractures including paediatric elbow fractures and the use of elastic intra-medullary nails and many others. He has significant experience in elective procedures such as carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, wrist arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy, spine canal decompression, spine microdiscectomy, scoliosis correction and others.
Dr. Mohannad Barakat has fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (trauma and orthopaedics), membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, MB ChB, and Bsc Neuroanatomy honours. He received awards in the field of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, and pathology. He has also earned honours in orthopaedics and anaethesia. His other specialities include emergency medicine, ENT, Cardiothoracic Surgery and General Surgery. He is the co-author of several publications such as Multilevel Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Decompression – Mid-term outcome using a modified Hinge osteotomy technique, An early comparison of clinical and mechanical aspects of hybrid and uncemented hip resurfacing and others.
A good communicator, Dr. Mohannad Barakat has excellent presentation skills and is often invited at local, national and international level. His presentations cover important areas of the medical field such as multilevel lumbar spinal stenosis decompression, surgical technique for management of Blount’s disease, bilateral hip surgery in severe cerebral palsy, new radiological appearance of ostenecrosis of the lateral condyle in tennis elbow and others. He is involved with the teaching and examination of students, junior and senior doctors at various stages of their education, allied professionals, and theatre staff at local, national and international level. He has the Oxford Teaching the Teachers Certificate, and is an examiner on the Miller FRCS course. He is the reviewer for the British Medical Journal, Journal of Joint and Bone Surgery and the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology.
