Dr. Mohannad Barakat is a respected medical professional who has astute understanding of medical profession. His qualifications include Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma and Orthopaedics), Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, MB ChB, and BSc Neuroanatomy honours. He is the recipient of several awards and honors in the field of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pathology, orthopaedics and others. He is competent in all aspects of trauma surgery ranging from the simple to very complex of trauma cases. These include all emergency trauma surgery, external fixation and frame ring fixation for fractures, hip fractures, long bone fractures, all knee fractures, ankle fractures, all paediatric fractures and others. He has also significant experience in elective procedures such as carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, wrist arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy, spine nerve root blocks, spine canal decompression, spinal fusion, trapeziectomy etc.
Dr. Mohannad Barakat has co-authored a number of publications and some of these include Multilevel Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Decompression–mid-term outcome using a modified Hinge osteotomy technique, An unexpected painful end-reply, An early comparison of clinical and mechanical aspects of hybrid and uncemented hip resurfacing, Leg length and offset following hip resurfacing and hip replacement, and others. He has given useful presentations at local, and national level. At international level, his presentations include important subjects such as The range of movement of the thumb, New surgical technique for the management of Blount’s disease, Comparison of biomechanics of total hip replacement and hip resurfacing, The long term outcome of bilateral hip surgery in severe cerebral palsy, management of long bone fractures from road traffic accidents and others.
Dr. Mohannad Barakat is involved with the teaching and examination of students, junior and senior doctors at various stages of their education, allied professionals, and theatre staff at a local, national and international level. He is the reviewer for the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Journal of Joint and Bone Surgery (JBJS) and the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOST).
